Finding pet friendly resorts is not always an easy task. It helps to know where to look and hear of other’s experiences. If you don’t like the option of leaving your pet behind, and have struggled with finding pet friendly resorts for your family vacations, you may feel like vacations are a lost cause.
Read below and you’ll see just the tip of the iceberg of the many options of pet friendly resorts to make your vacation a reality!
1. Ten Thousand Waves – Santa Fe, New Mexico
Traveling to Santa Fe? Set just 10 minutes from Santa Fe close to the National Forest, the Ten Thousand Waves is a traditional Japanese-style inn that was inspired by the great mountain hot spring resorts in Japan. Each house varies in size, but all include a dog-proof fence, their own bed to relax in, and a great outdoor place to run around! Now that sounds amazing! There is a $40 room charge per night for one or more pets.
2. Stanford Inn – Mendocino, California
The Stanford Inn is in Mendocino, on Northern California’s beautiful Pacific coast. Sunset magazine once named it one of the top destinations in the west for a dog-friendly vacation! Did you know that along with a plate of cookies for you, you’ll also find a welcome kit for your furry best friend? Over the years there’s been a variety of non human visitors: dogs and cats, of course, but also iguanas, parrots, Vietnamese pot belly pigs, and a tortoise! All are welcome with a modest fee of $45.00 charge per stay, for the first pet. Additional pets are $22.50.
Dogs will be provided with a homemade sweet-potato treat as well as food and water dishes, a stack of waste pick-up bags and fresh sheets! Here, you can share the fabulous experience of the Stanford Inn along with your pet. Guests can enjoy stunning views overlooking the water, as well as access to bicycles, canoes, organic foods, fair trade coffees and teas—to mention a few.
3. Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa & Casino – Lake Tahoe, California
The Hyatt Regency will be listed a couple times in this post because they provide excellent pet friendly resorts all over the US. The Hyatt Regency in Lake Tahoe is no different! You’ll find plenty of opportunities to have fun with your pet, including a ton of great trails for hiking and the infamous blue waters of the lake for a cool summer dip.
Pet-friendly rooms are conveniently located on the first floor for easy access in and out of the building. Be sure sure to specify and book these pet-friendly rooms in advance because they do sell out. The concierge is able to help in arranging pet boarding at nearby facilities if the rooms are filled. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome as long as they are nice and friendly for an additional $40 a day. If your dog is aggressive or uncomfortable with other animals, this might not be the best resort for you.
4. Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa At Gainey Ranch – Scottsdale, Arizona
Grab your pup and escape to one of the most pet friendly resorts in the remarkable desert vistas at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch. The Hyatt Regency features a unique “4paws” program with various pet amenities.
Your four-legged friend will be spoiled with an ultra-comfy pillow bed, a toy and Pet-in-Room door sign, and food and water dishes with a floor mat. Guests have access to a 2.5-acre water playground, gourmet cuisine, nightly entertainment, 24-hour gym, Native American cultural experiences, a world-class spa and more. Whether you bring your dog or cat, you should know that the pet maximum weight is 40 lbs…and if your cat is over 40lbs, you might want to look into a diet plan, LOL!!

5. Mountain Top Inn and Resort – Chittenden, Vermont
Located in Central Vermont, Mountain Top Inn and Resort offers a warm welcome to both you and your dog friend in one of its deluxe custom cabins or select vacation rentals. The property is set across 350 acres with magnificent views of a pristine mountain lake and an expanse of national forest. Dogs are welcome at an additional $50 charge per night and must be registered at the time of your reservation.
Canine guests are set up with a dog bed, bowls for food and dog walkers are available. Your pet can join you on the nearly 10 miles of cross-country ski trails and hiking trails. You can enjoy a variety of outdoor adventures.
During the summer months, enjoy activities like pontoon boat rides on the lake, disc golf, fishing, horseback riding, and more. In the winter, enjoy cross-country skiing, guided snowmobiling, horse-drawn sleigh rides and snow tubing!
6. Red Mountain Resort – Ivins, Utah
It’s difficult to find pet friendly resorts more accommodating than Red Mountain Resort. Escape to the beauty and tranquility of this majestic red rock area and enjoy a wide selection of healthy living activities as well as world-class dining and spa.
Guests traveling with pets are offered special deluxe accommodations, including a 55-acre scenic backyard as well as a nearby Snow Canyon Park with its plentiful space offering a perfect place to run and play. Pets will also receive organic treats, food and water dishes upon arrival. Offering pet-oriented programs such as Horseback riding and “Pound Puppy Hikes,” (an activity in which guests can bring their dogs), guests are able to enjoy their wellness experience alongside their furry friends.
7. The Muse – New York City, New York
Bring your best friend to New York City! The Muse is a lovely boutique hotel located just steps away from Times Square and the renowned theater district. It also happens to be one of the most impressive pet friendly resorts in the city.
Animal friends are welcome without size or weight restrictions, no limit on number of pets, and with no extra charge! Water bowls are delivered to your room and door hangers are available to alert other hotel guests and staff that your cat, dog, or other beloved pet is in the room. The concierge is happy to coordinate additional pet services, such as grooming, pet-sitting and walking, as well as providing a list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks, and pet boutiques.
8. Little Nell – Aspen, Colorado
The Little Nell is known as one of the best pet friendly resorts in America and they’ll take great care of you and your pet. At The Little Nell, they understand that pets are part of the family, which is why they proudly welcome four-legged friends in all of the luxury accommodations. As Aspen’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel, they pride themselves on providing impeccable service to each and every guest, including caring for your pets.
Your four-legged friend will be pampered with an array of luxury amenities, including epicurean treats and selections from a special pet menu. Staff will even walk them, sit them and guide you both to pet-friendly trails. Bowls, beds and even a Puppy Jet Lag Kit is provided to help them get used to the high altitude of Aspen along with a Little Nell leash and housemade peanut butter dog treats.
In the winter, you can enjoy some of the best skiing and snowshoeing on earth as well as dog sledding. In the summer, activities include everything from jeep tours to fly-fishing trips.
9. The Resort at Paws Up – Greenough, Montana
With a name like this one, it’s no secret that this would be one of the most pet friendly resorts on our list. Located in the beautiful Blackfoot Valley of Montana, The Resort at Paws Up is a luxurious wilderness escape that prioritizes the comfort of all its guests, including those with four legs.
Dogs get their own doggie beds, collars, locally-made treats, a tennis ball and even a welcome letter from the owner’s dog Coco. How cute is that? Guest accommodation options range from upscale safari-style tents to large and luxurious private homes. They will receive a map of the 37,000-acre ranch that has its own hiking trails. Fly fishing, horseback riding, and spa treatments are a few of the many activities available here. Pet package rates are an additional $50 (per night) per pet, payable at the time of reservation. Dogs are welcome at Paws Up in select accommodations, however not in the tented accommodations.
