Types of Carriers and Backpacks

Baby Wraps & Slings

Made of a piece of long soft fabric, these carriers wrap around the body in a specific way to hold and support babies up to six months old. They are comfortable and distribute the weight of a baby evenly. The biggest challenge to using a baby wrap is getting it wrapped and tied appropriately. There are many YouTube videos out there to help you get it right.

Soft Structured Carriers

These carriers have padded shoulders, are easy to put on and are used for babies 8-32 pounds or 3.6-14.5 kilograms. They are equipped with adjustable straps for maximum comfort for you and baby. Some models have lumbar support for added comfort. Brands you may have heard of include: BabyBjorn, LILLEbaby and Ergo Baby.

Kid Carrier Backpacks

These types of carriers are strong, stable and fold flat for easy storage. They have aluminum frames and can carry children up to 40 lbs or 18 kgs. Kid carrier backpacks are great for longer outings, hikes and parades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are carriers cleaned before and after they are rented?

Yes! We require that all QPs meticulously clean all of their baby equipment, including all carriers and backpacks. Babies' immune systems are still developing and we understand that you as parents or grandparents rightfully expect clean, sanitized products. Carriers are inspected and cleaned after every pickup and then inspected and lightly cleaned again before the next delivery. All cleaners used are organic or non-toxic.

Should baby be rear facing or front facing in a carrier?

This depends on age. Putting baby in a carrier facing in is ideal for newborns of at least 8 pounds or 15 kilograms and babies up to six months of age. If baby cannot hold her head up on her own ensure the head support is up.

Babies should be at least six months of age before they are secured in a carrier facing out. The facing out position should only be used if your baby can hold her head up on her own. When wearing baby facing-out, be sure the head support is folded down to ensure baby’s nose and mouth are free from obstructions.
